Keegan's Horses
Rowan (aka Lionwood Rowan de la Mer)
Rowan is our 3 year old purebred Irish Draught filly and Keegan's future competition mount. Rowan was bred by Flying Harp Farm in Iowa and comes from a historic Irish Draught mare family. Rowan's maternal grandmother was the imported RID mare Bonnie Belle Supreme. This wonderful mare was one of only two RID mares in North America when she was imported from County Limerick, Ireland in 1993, and she became the first foundation mare for the breed in North America after giving birth to the first purebred Irish Draught foal born on the North American continent in 1995 (Rowan's uncle, Easter Rebellion). Rowan's dam Lionwood Waterwitch is a lovely traditional Irish Draught mare by O'Leary's Irish Diamond. O'Leary's Irish Diamond successfully competed on the open dressage circuit in Florida through Prix St Georges level, often receiving "8's" for his gaits. He then went on to his jumper career and where has competed successfully through level 8. Rowan's sire is the popular young Irish Draught stallion Harkaway Lionhawk who is known for throwing extravagant movement in his progeny, and Rowan is certainly a good example! Her movement is simply outstanding - she demonstrates phenomenal cadence and volume in her gaits - usually after leaping her paddock fences to find out what her humans are doing. Despite her obvious jumping ability, Rowan has begun her dressage education with FEI rider Kathryn Bauman and we look forward to the time when Keegan takes over the reins!
Nora (aka Dandelion Nora Blue)
Nora (aka Dandelion Nora Blue) is our 5 year old RID mare and was also purchased from Flying Harp Farm in Iowa. She is a full sister to the RID stallion On a High, who stands in the UK. Nora is a lovely traditional Irish Draught mare with substance and quality. Nora's pedigree contains several outcross bloodlines, making her valuable for maintaining genetic diversity in the increasingly narrow Irish Draught gene pool, and her black color makes her a rarity in the breed. She has been under saddle for 2 years now and she is equally comfortable in the dressage arena or over fences. She demonstrates her sweet temperament and excellent work ethic on a daily basis.
Athalia
She is a 7 year old Oldenburg and is a 3rd level dressage horse. Keegan rides her in the summer and on breaks from school when he goes to TN to train. SHe has a superb temperment and is wonderful for a schooling or a show horse.
Bill
Bill is an 11 year old Arab/Trekehner cross and he has no "formal" training. He is someone that Keegan works with regularily to get experience with a horse that has no "formal" training and who will make a wonderful dressage prospect in the near future.
